Walking the Dog

Rovay Gallery, Walk By Window, Between Figuration and Abstraction, June 2020 Exhibition

1 Jun 2020 - 30 Jun 2020
Two Window exhibition between shaped paintings on panel boards (Cut Outs) and works on Canvas.

Artworks in Exhibition

These shaped paintings depart from the rectangular configuration. They are informed by colour, shape and an object-like quality taken all the way to the edges. I have created a series of works which employ new materials, new tools and a new transformation of value. When the rectangle is removed with the electric router, it is for me a moment of conversion through the power of change. As if by magic, the edges absorb and lead into the painting and the painting leads away from the edges.
The imagery is inspired by local places such as Vic. Ave. Albert Park with its thriving footpath cafes. A recognition of the ordinary drawing attention to our connection to the urban space, day-to-day commonplace. The unremarkable becomes and transforms into the extraordinary.

McGregor Street Window (Figuration)
One Leaf – (Top Left)
Acrylic paint on canvas
25 x 20 cm
A lone leaf created an interesting relationship to its surroundings.  In the language of flowers, heart-shaped leaves symbolise sincere affection, deep love and tenderness
Burst Out – (Lowest Left)
Acrylic paint on canvas
25 x 20 cm
Inspired by the beauty of fresh flowers in a room. Colour splendour of tulips and a feast for the eyes. I found that this vintage glass vase created a striking shape for this colour burst out.
Flamingo – (Top Middle)
Acrylic paint on canvas
25 x 20 cm
Just loved the red central flaming flower I found in an outdoor local garden. In the language of flowers, it symbolizes enthusiasm.
Mexican Sculpture – (Middle Middle)
Acrylic paint on canvas
25 x 20 cm
Outdoor Garden sculpture next to moss rose plants I discovered in a local backyard garden.
Love Spell – (Lowest Middle)
Acrylic paint on canvas
25 x 20 cm
Cyclamen in a vintage decorative indoor pot plant.  It is a plant of lasting feelings and sincere affection.
Ornamental Bouquet – (Top Right)
Acrylic paint on canvas
25 x 20 cm
Inspired by a corner on the table, these ornamental tulips are beautifully crafted and hand-painted. For me, it is a still life that ignites a cross-cultural spark in unity. The Romanian placemat, the Dutch ornamental tulips, the Japanese ceramic vase, all held against the backdrop of my limited edition large wall prints. A tribute to the feeling of spring even in winter.
Eucalyptus Forest – (Lowest Right)
Acrylic paint on canvas
25 X 20cm.
The scent of eucalypts, breath-in deeply and you can smell the forest. Take some leaves in your hand and crinkle them, it’s a scent that will stay with you forever
