Tel Aviv Café Life
I asked a friend who lives in Tel Aviv to send me a photo of his favourite local cafe. A visual experiment. I was interested in the concept of international cafe culture.

I asked a friend in Tel Aviv to send me a photo of his favourite local cafe. I ended up creating two works based On this photo.
‘Tel Aviv Cafe’ is one of two Works on paper.
The final works evolved Into abstract collages.
I wanted to experiment with the concept of cafe culture Worldwide while travelling is; still, Covid repressed.
The cafe in the photograph was surrounded by hanging potplants and large pot plants by the doorway. There was a sizeable decorative cut out figure of a waiter As A chalkboard menu. A few people were sitting on stools around the counter.
With this work on paper, I have pulled the depiction away from literal, Figurative reference points.
The focus is on the visual qualities of colour, form, texture, scale and collage.
“Abstraction allows man to see with his mind what he cannot see physically with his eyes.” Arshile Gorky.
