Urban life in an abstract world
Like a ‘builder,’ I created new assembled shapes from discarded wood that had fallen on the studio floor and had been extricated by the electric router from the large cutout paintings.
Random wooden shapes have been resurrected to create a new restored form.
Each shape that caught my eye was considered a new composition to make a unified whole with a three-dimensional quality.
The assemblages blur the lines between painting and sculpture and provide new meaning and connection.
Assemblage techniques were popularised in the 1950s by French artist Jean Dubuffet.
