Following the tradition of Still Life, which gained prominence during the sixteenth century, I have constructed a contemporary twist on the timeless tradition by painting the still life of the modern-day, symbolising foods that are exceptionally nutritious and beneficial In today’s world.
As I was chopping away in my kitchen, I thought of highlighting the role of nutrition in our daily life through a whimsical approach to painting.
The vegetables depicted are ordinary, familiar and part of kitchen ‘rituals’ in my daily life. The red pepper also has a superstar reputation in my kitchen. Technically, fruit, red peppers are excellent sources of vitamin A and C.
The inclusion of fabric collage simultaneously activated the pictorial space. It has created a contrast of different elements that have captivated my interest.
