Still Life
Painterly exuberance and visual contrast are created through form, colour and pattern. Collage has activated the pictorial surface to direct the viewer's eye through and around the unexpected shapes.
A leaf is an excellent symbol of growth or progress, a rebirth or a new beginning. "Turn over a new leaf". Green leaves depict hope, renewal and revival. It is said that a single leaf is an ancient heraldic symbol that represents happiness.
Inspired by my visit to this interior, One Leaf is informed by a new perception, a discovery of space through the art of collage. Completed between 2019 and 2021, the different layers in this painting are symbolic of time and experience.
