I asked a friend in Tel Aviv to send me a photo of his favourite local cafe. I ended up creating two works based On this photo.
‘Tel Aviv Cafe’ is one of two Works on paper.
The final works evolved Into abstract collages.
I wanted to experiment with the concept of cafe culture Worldwide while travelling is; still, Covid repressed.
The cafe in the photograph was surrounded by hanging potplants and large pot plants by the doorway. There was a sizeable decorative cut out figure of a waiter As A chalkboard menu. A few people were sitting on stools around the counter.
With this work on paper, I have pulled the depiction away from literal, Figurative reference points.
The focus is on the visual qualities of colour, form, texture, scale and collage.
