Imagined Local Ecosystems
Totemic shaped painting, inspired by Rovay’s local botanical gardens in Albert Park and St Kilda. An encounter with small insect-eating birds stimulated an imagined ecosystem.
My shaped paintings are informed by colour, shape and an object-like quality taken all the way to the edges. Extricating the shape away from its rectangular frame, I employ new materials, new tools and a new transformation of value.
When the rectangular frame is removed with the electric router, it is for me a moment of conversion through the power of change. A change where the edges absorb and lead into the painting.
