Hipwell asks us to connect the poem to the photograph, the photograph to the poem. The connection is not necessarily obvious.
The connection between the photograph and the poem demonstrates a solid interpretative component. A new ‘frame’ of meaning is revealed to draw upon and extend the meaning to the original frame of the photograph.
Hipwell explores contrasting states in this work, between figuration and abstraction as vehicles for expression.
