Exhibiting Artist Oren Hipwell. The Rovay Gallery is delighted to present Wayward Spirit exhibition by Photographer and Poet Oren Hipwell (Bachelor of Arts, Photography, RMIT University). Oren Hipwell’s poetry dances between the intimate/personal and the universal, leaving much open to interpretation. The image and poetry shape the meaning of the poem even further. The artist asks us to consider: is it the poem that drives our interpretation, or is it the image? When photographs and poems work together, they create a whole new meaning. It's more than a caption or explanation; it's a revelation that adds depth and context to both art forms. Oren Hipwell’s work remains open to interpretation and extends an invitation to a further imaginative engagement.

Artist Statement

The wayward spirit is a life of unpredictability, meeting challenges and overcoming fears that make you who you are. A self-journey of growth, the right and wrong paths you choose which may lead to your next roadblock or success. Exploring darkness and how powerful the light glows next to it, the emotions that represent your innermost person and the virtues you aim to achieve by the expression of your intuition.

Be inspired by the growth of yourself, take a moment to think about how far you have come, how you have changed and what lies ahead.

The perseverance of hope that burns so brightly in the wake of ambition and inner strength, only you can find meaning in all that holds you back.

Each exhibited photo has a poem attached to the photo title.

My poetry is embedded in a time and a place that explores feelings of love and self-expression. The two creative mediums come together to amplify the meaning of each artwork and add a narrative to the nature of how my art comes to life.
