Subject:
Urban streetscape footpath with trees
Trees on the nature strip are like urban deforestation. The greening of urban spaces.

I see these local trees as assets characteristic of my local landscape. I am interested in the way trees are placed in these spaces and the role they play in our environment.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, Flemish painters such as Joachim Patiner and German painters such as Durer became aware of particular trees in the areas in which they lived and worked. By the late 19th century and early 20th century, the Impressionists and post-Impressionist painters such as Monet, Vincent van Gogh and Cezanne commonly painted the tree to great effect.

In this work, I wanted to capture the life-giving force of the tree through the use of bold colours.

Inspired by the ‘Coast Banksia Tree’ in front of: 256 Armstrong Street, corner of Beaconsfield Parade, Middle Park
