Urban environment now? I explore this question using shapes and colour that symbolise the urban equivalent of the natural environment. I invite the viewer to rediscover our everyday urban domain. I selected these works to create a positive response to our new year ahead. The sensation of colour creates a sense of energy, like the sun stimulating new life within the ecosystem. The unrestricted nature of shape transforms the perception of our surrounding spaces. I seek in these works for us to connect with nature and create an invigorating urban awareness. Inspired by my visits to the St Kilda Botanical Gardens and the St Vincent Gardens, I have introduced imaginative birds, butterflies, flowers, plants and grubs to re-engage the viewer with the local urban nature.
